Practice begins tomorrow!
Families,
We are so excited to see your swimmers this week! Tomorrow will begin our evening practices - please choose from either 5-6pm or 6-7pm. Evening practices can be a bit chaotic, our goal is to get them back in the water and comfortable in a practice setting before we begin our morning practices split into age groups. Be aware, we have a larger than usual number of 10 & unders this year and may need to make some changes to evening practices based on attendance. I ask that families be flexible if possible. Please read below for a few reminders before our first day:
1. Any new 8 & under swimmers should not attend this week. Tryouts are next week! This allows us to get all our returning swimmers organized and also lets the pool warm up a bit.
2. The pool will still be pretty chilly, especially with today's weather. If you know your child has a hard time with cold water, stick around the rec center in case they need to get out early. Once a swimmer is no longer practicing, they need to be with a parent off the pool deck. With our numbers this year, the coaches will be fully focused on the pool and will not be able to supervise anyone out of the water.
3. I strongly encourage parents to leave the pool deck during swim practice. Swimmers listen better when they are focused entirely on the coaches. Parents are welcome to wait in the lobby of the rec center or in the open area by the locker rooms. Once we start morning practices, parents will not be allowed on deck. This is for safety reasons with our lifeguarding staff.
4. Weather - I will wait until 4:30 to make any weather related cancellations. This will be communicated via email and Facebook. We will swim in rain, unless the temperature is too cold or the bottom of the pool is not visible.
If you are new to swimming, please feel free to reach out with any questions. It can seem overwhelming at first, but the coaching staff and our returning families are happy to help ease the transition. We are happy to have you as a Blue Fin!
Thanks,
Coach Sarah
